The Cake Lady Speaks: Like it or not, you have influence
This morning I stopped by Wawa to grab my usual cup of Colombian coffee. Out of the eight to ten coffee pots lined up, only two were labeled Colombian—the one I always reach for. But today, both were empty.
With time ticking and work calling, I started scanning my options. I checked the four pots to my right—nothing tempting. I glanced at the four to my left—still not what I wanted. Then I paused at the regular coffee. Honestly, it’s not my go-to; it tends to taste a little watery to me.
But I was out of time, and life doesn’t always wait for fresh pots, does it? .
So, I had an idea: what if I added some dark brew to it? I poured a base of regular and topped it with one of the bolder roasts.
What I hadn’t realized was that two other gentlemen were already nearby—one to my left and one to my right. They were waiting for Colombian too. I hadn’t noticed at first. But as I walked away with my improvisation in hand, I looked back… and smiled.
It wasn’t just about the coffee anymore. It was the quiet echo of my choice in someone else’s hands.
They both did the exact same thing.
I didn’t say a word. I didn’t make a suggestion. I didn’t even realize they were paying attention. But they followed my lead—not because I asked, but because they saw.
I didn’t plan to lead. I wasn’t even fully present in the moment—I was just trying to make it to work on time. And yet…
What was behind my smile, you ask?
An internal message: “Like it or not, we all have influence.”.
We don’t always realize the impact of our presence, our choices, or our attitude. Someone is watching, learning, and being shaped by what we do—even over something as simple as a cup of coffee.
“Let your light so shine before others, that they may see your good works and glorify your Father in heaven.”
