About EMC
Ellen Moore Cakery is built on one simple belief: cake is never just cake.
We create custom cakes and thoughtfully designed desserts for moments that matter — celebrations, transitions, and the stories that bring people together.
More Than Cake
Ellen Moore Cakery is a custom bakery specializing in made-to-order cakes and thoughtfully designed desserts for meaningful moments — both big and small.
From birthdays and weddings to milestones, transitions, and moments that don’t always have a name, each creation is designed with intention. Not just to look beautiful, but to feel right for the moment it represents.
This work has never been about volume or walk-in traffic.
It’s about care, detail, and purpose.
How We Work
Ellen Moore Cakery is not a walk-in bakery.
We operate from a private kitchen, which allows us to focus on quality, craftsmanship, and personalized service for every order. Because of this:
All orders are pre-ordered and paid in advance
Orders are scheduled for curbside pickup or delivery
Walk-in orders are not accepted
This structure ensures each order receives the attention it deserves, without rushing or compromising quality.
Serving the DMV — and Beyond
Ellen Moore Cakery is based in Hanover, Maryland, serving clients throughout Maryland, Washington, DC, and select areas of Virginia.
We also work with clients from across the country who wish to send gift-ready desserts to loved ones, teams, or employees located in the DMV area. These orders often include cupcake bouquets, dessert shooters, and curated cupcake packages, thoughtfully designed and packaged for delivery.
Many corporate and long-distance clients place orders on behalf of recipients who live locally, allowing them to celebrate, recognize, or support someone from afar.
The Heart Behind the Work
Long before Ellen Moore Cakery became a business, the kitchen was a place of gathering — where hands stayed busy, conversations flowed naturally, and meaningful moments unfolded without effort.
That spirit still guides every order today.
Whether you’re celebrating something joyful, marking a transition, or simply creating a moment to pause and enjoy, each dessert is prepared with care, intention, and respect for the story it represents.
About Ellen
Ellen Moore is the heart behind Ellen Moore Cakery — known by many of her clients simply as “The Cake Lady.”
(The name wasn’t self-appointed; it was given by those who experienced her work and the care behind it.)
What began as a love for baking grew into something deeper: a calling to create meaningful experiences through food, conversation, and connection. Over the years, Ellen observed that the kitchen is often where people feel most at ease — where stories are shared, perspectives shift, and clarity begins to form.
Today, that same intentionality shapes every order. Ellen approaches her work with both creativity and care, believing that desserts don’t just mark occasions — they help carry meaning, comfort, and joy.
How the Story Continued
Over time, the conversations that began in the kitchen started to extend beyond dessert. What people shared, reflected on, and discovered during those moments became the foundation for something more.
From that space, Ellen Moore Serves was born — an extension of the same heart, intention, and care that first took shape through cake. While the work expanded, the essence remained unchanged: creating room for connection, reflection, and growth.
Those same themes later took written form in Gettin’ By, Imma Do & Free — a book rooted in lived experience and honest observation. It reflects the internal shifts people make as they move from survival, to decision, to freedom — a progression often witnessed during conversations that once unfolded in the kitchen.
The journey continued to evolve through Find Your True Essence: The Flavor of You — a space designed to help individuals explore who they are, how they show up, and how their unique “flavor” contributes to the world around them. What began as personal reflection grew into a broader experience centered on awareness, intention, and community.
Today, that work continues through a membership and community created to support ongoing reflection, connection, and forward movement — meeting people where they are and walking alongside them as they grow.
While the expressions have expanded, the foundation remains the same:
creating space for people to pause, reflect, and move forward with clarity and purpose.
Order Inquiry
Ellen Moore Cakery works by pre-order only, because every cake begins with listening.
