The Cake Lady Speaks: There Is a Harvest Attached to “It”
There is a phrase that has settled deeply into my heart recently:
There is a harvest attached to “it.”
“It” is whatever I choose… and whatever I avoid.
It’s what I act on… and what I keep putting off.
It’s what I face… and what I delay.
And what I’ve come to understand is this:
I will reap a harvest either way.
There is no neutral ground.
If I act, something grows.
If I procrastinate, something grows.
If I move forward, something grows.
If I delay, something grows.
Either way… something is being planted.
Recently, while traveling, I found myself sitting on the balcony of my cabin, quietly twirling my feet in the cool breeze, overlooking the water and the backdrop of the islands. Everything in front of me was intentional. The islands stood with structure. The water moved with purpose. The view didn’t ask for my attention—it commanded stillness.
And in that moment, I wasn’t thinking about what was next. I was present.
Present enough to recognize that what I was experiencing was a harvest.
The beauty.
The peace.
The stillness.
None of it was accidental.
God created it. And someone made the decision to move, to build, to prepare. Because of that, I was now experiencing what had already been planted.
And it made me reflect on my own life.
Not just what I experienced while I was there—but what I have been allowing myself to experience… and what I have been postponing.
Because procrastination doesn’t stop planting.
It plants delay.
It plants stagnation.
It plants frustration.
It plants internal conflict.
It plants distance between you and what could have been.
And over time, procrastination doesn’t delay the harvest.
It produces its own harvest.
The harvest always matches what was planted.
Not what I intended.
Not what I planned.
Not what I said I would do.
What I planted.
Some of what I am living today, I planted intentionally. And some of it, I planted through delay.
This is where February’s Word of the Month found me: Clarity.
Each month, a single word rises to the surface—revealing, confronting, and guiding me in ways I didn’t anticipate. This month, that word is Clarity.
Not clarity as a concept.
Clarity as truth.
Clarity showed me that nothing in my life is neutral.
Clarity showed me that my daily choices are seeds.
Clarity showed me that I am not waiting on harvest—
I am living in one.
Either the harvest of what I intentionally planted…
Or the harvest of what I allowed through delay.
Clarity is not always comfortable. But it is always loving. Because clarity gives me the power to choose differently.
It allows me to stop blaming time.
It allows me to stop blaming circumstances.
It allows me to see what my life is responding to.
My planting.
And the gift in that is this:
At any moment, I can plant differently.
At any moment, I can move differently.
At any moment, I can create a different harvest.
Because there is a harvest attached to “it.”
And clarity allows me to finally see it.
And once you see it, you can never live the same way again.
Love,
